First Descents experienced an exceptionally successful evening on March 31st, 2012. Our biggest fundraising event yet, we succeeded our goal of $400,000 and raised over $450,000 to send young adults to our programs! The delicious vegan meal, the sweet sounds of Funkiphino, and the general buzz in the ballroom kept the evening on a high until after midnight!
There were many exciting and moving highlights throughout the evening. His wonderful parents Lee and Lori Brower honored our 2012 Spirit Award winner, Nick “Nickname” Raitt. Following our tribute video to Nickname, Lee and Lori gave a heartfelt acceptance speech that included tears, and laughs. Click here to watch Nickname’s video.
Her loving and supporting husband Jason introduced our second speech of the night, by Karson “Johnny” Leitch Beaty. Listening to her experience and truly feeling how FD has changed her life made a truly positive impact on the feel of the evening. We are so proud of Johnny and all of her accomplishments and are proud to call her part of the FD Family!
The live auction was exciting as ever, as Gary Corbett was auctioning off items left and right and the competition was hot! We were able to raise a substantial amount of the evening’s donations through our live auction and we are ever so grateful!
The 50 volunteers of the evening helped to ensure that everything ran smoothly, and were a huge help to our 410 guests. We appreciate their help so much, and could not have run the evening so well if it weren’t for their generosity!
Overall this year was by far the most exciting and successful Ball yet, and we look forward to surpassing all of that at the 2013 FD Ball! Check out more exciting photos here! Thank you to everyone who could make it out, to all of your generous donations and time and we look forward to seeing you next year!
