Joey Thompson (aka Spare Parts) is a fully certified AMGA/IFMGA Mountain Guide in alpine, ice, rock climbing and ski mountaineering based in Boulder, Colorado. Achieving IFMGA status was the culmination of many years of work and commitment to the mountain guiding profession. Currently Joey guides alpine and rock climbing in the summer and guides ice climbing and ski touring in the winter. He is a Wilderness First Responder, AIARE Level 1 & 2 Avalanche Instructor, and Level 3 certified with both AIARE and the American Avalanche Institute. The AMGA recognized Joey as 2013’s Outstanding Guide of the Year for exceptional dedication to his mountain craft and clients. Joey has been a part of the First Descents family for many years now and is excited to be officially repping First Descents as a 2015 ambassador.
When not guiding in the mountains you can find Joey sitting back relaxing with his wonderful wife Susan and their doggy, Honcho.
