JOIN US FOR A 2024 HEALING ADVENTURE!

The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation and First Descents launched HERO RECHARGE – a nationwide series of outdoor adventure programs for healthcare professionals. Thanks to a leadership gift from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, all programs will be provided free of charge to healthcare workers.

We can’t fathom what it’s like to be on the front-lines of the greatest healthcare crisis of our generation. But we do know this: we want you to have the opportunity to adventure and recharge in beautiful wild places with your professional peers.

HERO RECHARGE will offer programs focusing on rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, paddle boarding, mountain biking, yoga, and surfing. At night on multi-day programs, there will be time to relax and connect around the campfire over delicious meals prepared by First Descents Chefs. All lodging, gear, outfitter instruction, and food will be provided. Right now, programs are launching in late August and we’re rapidly working to scale programs across the country as public health directives permit.

To apply, please fill out the inquiry below to stay in the know about upcoming adventures and information.

FAQ's

Who is eligible to attend Healthcare Worker (HCW) Programs?

Healthcare workers and first responders working in medical and emergency settings on behalf of COVID-19 response efforts.

Are there any age restrictions for HCW Programs?

All applicants must be at least 18 years old to attend a HCW Program.

When will HCW Programs be offered?

FD will follow public health directives and the advice of infectious disease experts in this regard. We are hoping for a late 2020 launch and will share our program options with you once we know they can be safely administered, per public health directives.

I’m an existing FD Oncology or MS Alumni and a Healthcare Worker. Am I eligible for a HCW Program too?

At this time, HCW Programs are reserved for Healthcare Workers who have never been on a FD program before. We honor that a number of our Alumni are healthcare workers and may be working on behalf of or impacted by COVID-19. Thank you for your work! However, FD believes in extending the power of outdoor adventure to as many people as possible and wants to spread the power to those who have never benefitted from a FD program before.

If I’m interested in attending, what is the first step I should take?

First, please fill out the HCW Program Inquiry above. That way we know you’re interested and we have you in our system! Once we have more program information, we’ll get in touch with you and share those details and next steps to complete your application!

What will the application entail?

FD is working with experts to develop a robust application process that ensures the health and safety of everyone. The application will likely include multiple steps and screenings. Be sure to fill out the HCW Program Inquiry so that we can send you our application when it’s ready to go!
