This year will be the 17th year First Descents has fielded a team for the infamous Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race in Leadville, CO – 104 miles long with over 14,000 feet of elevation gain at altitudes up to 12,600 feet.
In 2006, First Descents’ Executive Director, Allan Goldberg, suffered a recurrence of cancer that had been in remission for 26 years. Allan needed a challenge to help him mentally prepare for the long months of chemo and radiation ahead. He chose the 2007 Leadville 100 mountain-bike race and challenged his oldest and best friend, Brent Goldstein, to join him. They all raced the 2007 Leadville 100 and raised nearly $85,000 for First Descents! Sadly, Allan passed away in 2008. Now, in his honor Team First Descents lives on.
