Join local FD Community member Reid (“Speedo”) for a fun Roanoke hiking adventure up to McAfee Knob, known for some of the best views along the entire Appalachian Trail.

Saturday, November 15 | 7:45 AM

Important Details

  • Location: McAfee Knob. The trailhead parking lot for the hike fills up early, so we will meet at the I-81 Park and Ride off Exit 140 in Salem,VA, and take an 8:00 am shuttle over to the trailhead together. Speedo will book the shuttle tickets 10 days in advance for the group.
  • Activity: Hiking the 8-mile McAfee Knob via Appalachian Trail (AllTrails). It should take us about 4-5 hours.
  • What to bring: Dress for the weather, sturdy hiking shoes (good traction and ankle support!), water and snacks.

Whether it’s your first time joining or you’ve been to a bunch of FD meetups – it’ll be a fun day hanging out with local FD community members in the area. Feel free to invite along friends/family (18+), as anyone is welcome to attend Community Adventures!
