Nancy Oaks

Originally from New York City and currently living in the Bay Area, Nancy has supported First Descents in a variety of ways since she first attended a camp over 10 years ago through FD’s partnership with Genentech. Nancy worked at Genentech for 16 years holding leadership roles in sales, marketing and managed care.  Prior to joining Genentech, Nancy held several positions at Amgen, Stiefel, Allergan and Novartis. She has been retired from the Bio/Pharma industry for 2 years after 4 decades in the industry.

During her career, she gained experiences in many facets of the bio-tech/pharmaceutical business including finance, marketing, commercial operations and sales.  Nancy has served in senior leadership roles in commercial operations responsible for market research, managed care, sales operations, compliance, commercial I.T. and data analysis.  She has also led several field based teams primarily in the hematology, oncology, dermatology and respiratory therapeutic areas.

She has a reputation for successfully leading teams through change in complex and competitive environments, as well as for her collaborative and inclusive approach with everyone she engages with.

Nancy is a graduate of Pace University in New York City and was a member of The Genentech Foundation board for 4 years.  She was also a member of several women’s leadership groups including the Healthcare Women’s Business Association and McKinsey’s Women’s Leadership Roundtable.

Nancy is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys taking walks on the beach, traveling, gardening and spending time with her friends and family.  She is also a cancer survivor and holds First Descents and their mission near and dear to her heart.
