FDtribs Boston Sea Kayaking Richmond Island Recap

Our latest FDtributaries event with the Boston Trib and the FD Family in New England was a lovely overnight weekend sea kayaking to beautiful Richmond Island just a few miles off the coast of Portland, ME. Our group had a superb turnout with 11 participants including 1 brand new FDer and 6 first time Tribers.

Our group all gathered on Friday evening in Old Orchard Beach for some quality time to connect, get to know each other and embrace the Mainer way of life by enjoying a delicious dinner of lobster rolls. We then packed our dry bags, geared up, and shared our enthusiasm for the adventure ahead before catching some Zzz and heading out on the water Saturday AM.

On Saturday, we made our way over to Crescent Beach State Park to meet up with our awesome guides from Portland Paddle. They taught us how to properly load and pack sea kayaks and revisited some basic paddling techniques before getting us out on the ocean. The group hit the water in no time and were quickly in their element, Out Living It on the Atlantic! We then paddled our way out to Richmond Island, catching a few “neature” sightings of harbor seals and soaring bald eagles on the way. Once making camp on the island, we set up a stellar tent sight along the beach, cooked a big dinner, and built a nice fire to gather around under the starry New England sky.

We had an incredible group of FDers this weekend with some bright personalities and a lot of contagious, positive energy. We were all able to make some special connections, revisit what it means to be truly Out Living It and highlight what we feel is really important in life (creating meaningful relationships, supporting one another, and thriving in the present moment).

We feel more than lucky to have been a part of this FD adventure with the Boston Trib and are already looking forward to the next one to come, big or small!
