FDtribs New York City Q3: Rock Climbing in the Gunks Recap

The leaves just began to turn when FDtribs NYC escaped the city to go rock climbing in the Shawangunk mountains, known to locals as The Gunks! Fourteen participants gathered at a breathtaking lakeside home where we indulged in handmade fresh spring rolls, and kale salad. We ended our night with fire roasted s’mores with dark chocolate, peanut butter cups and milk chocolate!

We met our outfitter, Alpine Endeavors, at Peter Kill’s climbing area. After getting fitted with helmets, shoes and harnesses, and made our way to the crag. With four ropes set up, everyone was able to get on a route and climb!  Just when we the thought the day was over, our guides took us to the top of the rock wall and set up two separate rappels. The beauty of the overlook outweighed the fear of heights, and everyone rappelled down!

After dinner, we had another campfire near the lake under the night’s sky. It was the perfect ending to a weekend together with the FD family! Until next time…
