First Descents x Hook & Arrow Limited Edition Release

Hook & Arrow and First Descents have a shared passion for healthy eating and the outdoors. That’s why we partnered up to release a limited edition hot sauce 2-pack for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Over the years, Hook & Arrow founders, Sam & Henry, have built a strong connection with First Descents offering their time as volunteers on our week-long programs. With a family history of breast cancer and a personal tie to First Descents, the idea for a Hook & Arrow x First Descents collaboration was born. 

When Sam & Henry began developing these sauces earlier this year they knew they wanted to create a ‘pink’ sauce Strawberry, Ghost Pepper to be representative of breast cancer. It later dawned on them that, although less common, men can also receive a breast cancer diagnosis. To symbolize breast cancer in men, they created a ‘blue’ sauce Blueberry, Ghost Pepper. The sauces are intentionally mild and 100% delicious. The best part, 25% of proceeds from this two-pack will be donated to First Descents.

Buffalo Cauliflower

The hot sauce gives this dish a surprising kick of spice but a nice sweetness to an unassuming buffalo treat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 head cauliflower, cut to florets
  • ½ cup + 1 Tablespoon rice flour
  • ½ cup + 1 Tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon neutral oil, such as grape seed

Sauce***

  • 4 Tablespoons butter or Earth Balance butter for vegan option, melted
  • 1/4 cup Hook & Arrow blueberry ghost pepper hot sauce

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 425F.
  • In a large bowl, combine rice flour, water, garlic powder, paprika, cumin and salt. Mix thoroughly with a whisk.
  • Place cut cauliflower pieces in the batter and mix well until each cauliflower floret is coated evenly. 
  • Grease, non-stick (or parchment paper-lined) baking sheet with the oil.
  • Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until you see the cauliflower turn golden and a little brown. 
  • Whisk together  Hot sauce and melted butter (or butter substitute) in another large bowl.
  • When the cauliflower is finished, put hot cooked cauliflower into the large bowl with the hot sauce/butter mixture and mix well. 
  • Taste and adjust seasonings. If desired, put coated cauliflower mixture back in oven for 5 more minutes

Sweet & Spicy Strawberry Peanut Butter Cups

Melt gently in a double boiler:

  • 1 lb. Bag of Enjoy life Dark Chocolate chips 
  • 3 Tablespoons coconut oil

Mix together:

  • 1 ½ cups peanut butter
  • 1/8 cup maple syrup
  • 1/8 cup Hook & Arrow Strawberry ghost pepper hot sauce
  • Pink himalayan salt for topping

Instructions:

  • Line muffin 2 muffin tins with papers for a total of 24 pieces          
  • Pour roughly 1 oz of melted chocolate into the bottom of each cup liner
  • Form about 1 Tablespoon of the peanut butter mixture into a disk with your fingers and place in the center on top of the first layer of chocolate
  • Scoop another ounce of chocolate to cover the tops
  • Sprinkle with coarse pink himalayan salt
  • Allow to set completely.  Depending on the room temp you may need to place in the freezer for a few minutes to harden them up before releasing them from the papers.  Do not leave them in the freezer for more than a few minutes as this will cause them to ‘bloom’ or get chalky streaks
